गालिब के जन्म दिवस पर

गालिब वह नाम है, जिसे भारत ही नहीं दुनिया के कई देशों में शायरी का पर्याय माना जाता है। उनकी शायरी की अदा ही यह थी कि बात भी गहरी होती थी और कहने का अंदाज भी निराला होता था।

आज के इस मौके पर उनका एक शेर याद करना ही रहा।

जब कुछ न था तो खुदा था,

कुछ न होता तो खुदा होता

डुबोया है मुझे होने ने

ना होता तो क्या होता?

वाह गालिब साहब, शायराना अंदाज में भगवान का रहस्य ही समझा गए। जब कुछ न था, यानी खुदा के घर से आया ही था, नन्हा बच्चा था, तब होने का दृढ़ एहसास नहीं था। अतः खुदा ही था। खुदा है क्या, यही कि जिसे अपने अलग से होने का एहसास नहीं। दूसरे शब्दों में कहा जाए तो जिसे नाम, जात या धर्म का अहंकार नहीं। अर्थात् कुछ न था तब खुदा था।

लेकिन बड़े होते-होते फंस गया। परिवार ने नाम दिया, बुजुर्गों ने मजहब दिया। दुनिया ने काम दिया, और गालिब हो गया। परंतु सोचो यह कि यदि यह सबकुछ न ओढ़ा होता, तो खुदा ही होता।

और आज जीवन के इस मुकाम पर समझ रहा हूँ कि डुबोया है मुझे होने ने, यदि बचपन का होने के एहसास रहित वाला स्वरूप सम्भाल लिया होता, तो सोचो आज क्या होता? ...खुदा ही होता।

...वाह गालिब साहब! आपके बारे में सही ही कहते हैं कि आपका अंदाजे बयां ही कुछ और है।

On Mirza Ghalib’s Birthday

Ghalib is the name which is synonymous with shayari not only in India, but also in many countries across the world. The beauty of his shayari was that it had a very profound meaning and at the same time the style of saying it was truly exceptional!

Today, on the occasion of his birth anniversary, one would surely remember this verse of his:

When there was nothing, there was God;

Had there been nothing, there would have been God,

My sense of being has sunk me,

Had I not been, what would have been?

Wow, Ghalib Saheb! You had revealed the very mystery of God in your unique poetic style.

When there was nothing, that is, when I had just come into this world and was an infant, I had no sense of my being in this world. Therefore, only God was in existence. And, what is God? He who doesn't have a feeling of his individual existence. In other words, someone who doesn't have a sense of pride for his name, caste or religion. Meaning, when there was nothing, there was God.

But as I grew up, I fell into a trap. My family gave me a name, elders gave me religion. The society compelled me to work and I became Ghalib. But, if I hadn't masked myself with all this, then I would have surely been God!

And today, at this stage in life, I am beginning to the understand that the realisation of my existence has only sunk me; if I could have retained my childhood form which was devoid of the feeling of my existence, then just think what would I have been? ...Of course God!

...I applaud you Ghalib Saheb! It has been rightly said about you that your style of saying things was truly one of its kind!

A Christmas Special

When I was crucified, my last words were “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Certainly, at that time I had spoken these words for the Jews, but today I repeat the same words for most of the Christians – Dear God please forgive them, for they themselves do not know what they are doing in my name. If they were aware, wouldn’t love be reigning all over Christianity? If they could feel the presence of my being, don’t you think man would have emerged as the best friend of the entire humanity. If they would have understood me correctly, wouldn’t their life be free of sorrows and worries? This will surely happen! Let me tell you, all is not lost yet! My teachings and the life I lived are right there for all to see and be inspired. All I would say is, learn from it... in my view that would be the true celebration of Christmas!

क्रिसमस के पर्व पर विशेष

जब मुझे सूली पर लटकाया गया तब मेरे अंतिम शब्द थे, इन्हें माफ करो! यह नहीं जानते कि ये लोग क्या कर रहे हैं। निश्चित ही उस समय ये शब्द मैंने यहूदियों से कहे थे। पर आज मैं अधिकांश क्रिश्‍चियन के लिए भी यही शब्द दोहरा रहा हूँ कि हे प्रभु इन्हें माफ करो! इन्हें खुद अंदाजा नहीं कि मेरे नाम पर ये लोग क्या-क्या कर रहे हैं। यदि अंदाजा होता तो प्रेम का साम्राज्य न होता क्रिश्‍चियनिटी पर? यदि मेरा कुछ भी एहसास होता इन लोगों को तो मनुष्य, मनुष्य का सबसे बड़ा मित्र बनकर न उभरा होता? यदि मुझे ठीक से समझा होता तो सबके जीवन से दुःख व चिंताएं गायब न हो गई होतीं? होगा! परंतु आप लोगों से कह देता हूँ कि अभी भी कुछ नहीं बिगड़ा है। मेरी कही बातें और मेरा जीया जीवन आपके सामने है। मैं तो यही कहूंगा कि उनका फायदा उठाओ। ...मेरी दृष्टि में वही सही क्रिसमस मनाना होगा।
