Once, a man was strolling in the woods.
He also had a keen interest in wild life. He, especially, liked the predatory
techniques of lions and tigers ...Just then, from afar he saw a lion staring at
a deer ...Meaning, the moment of hunting had arrived. But who knows what
happened, the deer sensed the presence of the lion somewhere close. And no
sooner did it sense this than it took to its heels and sped away. Seeing this,
the astounded lion chased after it. But despite several attempts, it failed to
catch the deer. In a dejected mood, the lion went and quietly sat beneath a
tree. Seeing this, the man went near to the lion to comfort it. And then, addressing
the lion he said – it was your ill-fate.
Hearing this, the lion became furious
and growling he said – Please spare us animals your false teachings about fate.
We animals believe in deliberating and seeking out our faults when we fail. And
let me tell you, it was because of my over-confidence that the deer escaped
from my clutches. Thinking where could it go, I unnecessarily gave it ample
time to flee. But I have learnt my lesson from today’s mistake. Henceforth, I
will not give my prey so much time. So, by speaking of fate etc. do not even
try to make us action-oriented animals weak like you. You humans are most
welcome to blame either God or fate for all of your failures. We leave it to
you ‘intelligent’ beings to sometimes hold your family and at other instances
the society responsible for your incompetence. Here, let me state clearly that
every failure in our life is a result of our own mistake. But since you blame
others, you keep making the same mistakes repeatedly! And this is the prime
reason behind you leading an arduous life. Hence, don’t use fate as an excuse
to hide your failures.
Poor man! He had gone to console the
lion but returned rebuked! However, you make that lion your mentor for sure. Seek
out your own faults after every failure and eliminate them; and your life will continue
to be filled with success and happiness.
