One
day I thought to myself, that my popularity is so widespread. I had spent my
entire life in a struggle. Even in the name of imparting knowledge, I was able
to narrate the Gita to Arjun just once. But today the stage is set for me. There
is no scope for struggle. Then why not go and share knowledge with people? As
it is, I had also said in the Gita that I would definitely come again to redeem
you. Then what could be a better opportunity than this?
So,
I came to earth and straight away set up a shop of knowledge in the lanes of Varanasi.
Now, as soon as the news spread that Krishna himself has arrived, crowds
started pouring in from all over. Seeing this, the Pundits who had set up their
shops nearby, went into a state of shock, wondering, “If everyone goes only to
Krishna then what will happen to all of us?”
Anyway,
what have I got to do with this? I had come to uplift the world, not to fret
over a handful of pundits. So, I began to propound the knowledge that would
help one grow in life. Addressing the gathered crowd, I said that consider
happiness-unhappiness, respect-insult and sin-virtue to be equal. By thinking
thus a lot of your troubles will vanish. But perhaps, the crowd wanted
something else. A few of them asked for some mantras that would help better
their lives.
I
clearly said – There is no such mantra! But I can give you a mantra to help you
change the state of your mind. Believe me, everything will change as soon as
your mind changes.
However,
nobody was perhaps interested in transforming themselves. Some people were
asking me to cast spells, whereas some others were asking about rituals. Now, a
human being lands in trouble because of his weak mind. How can rituals and
spells be helpful in that case? He has to cure his mind and I was offering
solutions for the same. However, the situation was that nobody wanted to listen
to it.
Just
then, a few people from the crowd said – Forget it! It seems as though Krishna
has become outdated. He has no idea about the present scientific age at all. For
us, these pundits who have set up their shops of religion are good enough. For
a meagre sum of Rs. 50 - 100, they provide such wonderful mantras and rituals.
...What
could I say? Nevertheless, being a compassionate person, I made one more
attempt at explaining to everyone and said – But, these rituals are bogus. You
have been using them since centuries, have your lives bettered in anyway? But,
there was no one who would listen to this. My shop was now empty. The crowd had
now gathered at the shops of the pundits that were spread-out nearby.
Seeing
this I laughed. As soon as I laughed, my eyes opened. And as soon as my eyes
opened I got scared. Then and there I also decided that whatever I have said in
the Gita is fine, but I am definitely not reappearing on earth.
