A Special on the Birthday of Bill Gates

Bill Gates was born on 28th October, 1955. We are all aware of his billionaire status and the stature of his brainchild, Microsoft. However, today on his birthday I would like to discuss about a lesser-known facet of his personality i.e. his qualities. Because it is my firm belief and also the truth that it is the intrinsic individual qualities of a human being that make him great and successful. A man cannot become great and successful seeking the support of others or on the basis of a few blessings, and Bill Gates had understood this reality from a very young age itself. He did not believe at all in God or Destiny and the truth is also that, he who does not depend upon God or Destiny, has to depend on himself to attain success under any circumstances… and this is precisely what Bill Gates did! But once he achieved the zenith of success and was seated on a mountain of wealth, he then became the support system of millions of people. And who is not aware of his philanthropic activities. He has donated a major chunk of his wealth to various charitable causes.

The lesson that needs to be learnt here is, success is something we should achieve on our own merit. We should not seek the support of God or Destiny for it… but yes, once we achieve success, we should not forget God. Then, just like God we should love one and all equally and help others as much as possible. This is the true definition of religion. Even Buddha had attained Nirvana charting his own path and then he enlightened the whole world with his wisdom. This is the reason why Buddha had denied the existence of God, because if God is the name for seeking shoulders for support then God simply does not exist. But, we do exactly the opposite. To achieve success, we rely on God and Destiny and if by chance we manage to achieve something, then we refuse to care for others. Considering everything to be ours, we squander it on ourselves… and this is the reason why we are not able to succeed like Bill Gates. We believe, blessings and Destiny are of God, but the fruits of success are ours, whereas Bill Gates teaches us, the hard work should be ours, but its fruits should be enjoyed by the whole world. This is True Religiousness!  Religiousness is not proved by having or not having faith in God, but by treating the entire mankind just like God does. And this is why, Bill Gates although not believing in God is religious and billions of people, though visiting temples- mosques or churches are still non-religious.

बिल गेट्स के जन्मदिवस पर विशेष

28 अक्टूबर 1955 को बिल गेट्स का जन्म हुआ था। वे कितने बड़े धनपति हैं या उनकी माइक्रोसॉफ्ट का स्टेटस क्या है; यह किसी को बताने की जरूरत नहीं। परंतु आज उनके जन्मदिवस पर मैं उनके गुणों की चर्चा करना चाहता हूँ। क्योंकि मेरा यह दृढ़ विश्‍वास है तथा सत्य भी यही है कि मनुष्य को महान व सफल उसके गुण ही बनाते हैं। मनुष्य महान और सफल किसी के आसरे, या किसी के आशीर्वाद से नहीं बन सकता है। और बिल गेट्स यह बात कम उम्र में ही समझ गए थे। उनका भगवान या भाग्य पर बिल्कुल विश्‍वास नहीं था। तथा जमीनी हकीकत भी यही है कि जो सफलता के लिए भगवान या भाग्य के आसरे नहीं रहता उसे हरहाल में सफलता पाने हेतु स्वयं के आसरे ही आगे बढ़ना होता है। …यही बिल गेट्स ने किया। लेकिन एकबार अपने बलबुते पर सफलता पा ली और धन के शिखर पर जा बैठे तो फिर वे लाखों-करोड़ों व्यक्तियों के आसरे जरूर बने। उनकी चैरिटेबल गतिविधियों से कोई अनजान नहीं है। उन्होंने अपनी अधिकांश पूंजी चैरिटी में दी हुई है।

यहां उनसे सीखने का यही है कि सफल हमें अपने बल पर होना होता है। उस हेतु भाग्य या भगवान का आसरा नहीं खोजना है। …परंतु एकबार सफल हो गए तो भगवान को नहीं भूलना है। फिर भगवान की तरह सबसे बराबरी का प्यार करना है और हो सके उतनी सबकी सहायता करनी है। यही धर्म की सही परिभाषा है। बुद्ध ने भी ज्ञान स्वयं के बल पर ही पाया। फिर उस ज्ञान से दुनिया को रोशन कर दिया। तभी तो बुद्ध भगवान के अस्तित्व से इन्कार करते थे। क्योंकि यदि भगवान का नाम आसरा खोजना है, तब तो भगवान नहीं ही है। परंतु हम उलटा करते हैं, सफलता हेतु भगवान व भाग्य पर निर्भर रहते हैं तथा गलती से कुछ हासिल हो जाए तो किसी का खयाल नहीं रखते। सबकुछ अपना मान अपने पर ही उड़ाते हैं। …बस इसीलिए हम बिल गेट्स नहीं हो पा रहे हैं। हम समझते हैं कि आशीर्वाद और भाग्य तो भगवान के पर फल हमारा। जबकि बिल गेट्स सिखाते हैं कि मेहनत हमारी और फल पूरे संसार का। यही सच्ची धार्मिकता है। धार्मिकता ईश्‍वर में विश्‍वास करने या न करने से सिद्ध नहीं होती है, बल्कि धार्मिकता ईश्‍वर-सा व्यवहार करने से सिद्ध होती है। और इसीलिए बिल गेट्स भगवान में न मानकर भी धार्मिक हैं, और करोड़ों-करोड़ों लोग मंदिर-मस्जिद या चर्च जाकर भी अधार्मिक-के-अधार्मिक ही हैं।

Do you wish to live life happily?

-Oh, Mr. Joy! You are not to be seen these days?

-Look at this! It’s like the pot calling the kettle black!

I flitter around you day and night

If nothing else, at least spend a few hours in my company

Play and enjoy yourself for a while

Listen to some sweet songs once in a while

But no…!

All that you can see is the important work that needs to be done

You have created such a hullabaloo

As if you only have to run the whole world

I say – if not by other means, at least experience me by having something nice to eat and drink

But no! You find calories in anything that is good to eat

You roam around in good cars only to show off to others

So even there you miss out on the real pleasure, i.e. the joy of driving

-What you are saying does make sense, but what do I do?

-I also have a future to build

Building one’s future is such a habit

That once you have clung onto it

It won’t leave you till your last breath

Now listen to me carefully

If you do not accompany me for a little while every day, then I will become upset

And if I get annoyed

I will not rest until I infect you with a number of mental illnesses

And I won’t spare the body either

I will make sure it is plagued by numerous diseases as well

Bear this in mind, all people suffering from mental and physical maladies

Are bearing the brunt of ignoring me.

आनंदपूर्वक जीना चाहते हो क्या?

- अरे, जनाब आनंद! तुम तो आजकल दिखते ही नहीं हो?
- लो, उलटा चोर कोतवाल को डांटे
मैं तो दिन-रात तुम्हारे आगे-पीछे घूमता हूँ
कुछ नहीं तो दिन के दो-चार घंटे मेरे साथ बिता लिया करो
कुछ देर खेल-कूद लो
कभी एकाध प्यारा-सा संगीत सुन लो।
पर नहीं…
तुमको तो बस जब देखो जरूरी काम नजर आ जाते हैं
ऐसी भागा-दौड़ी मचाए हुए हो
मानो पूरा विश्‍व ही तुम्हें चलाना पड़ रहा हो।
मैं कहता हूँ- अच्छा खा-पी के ही मेरा अनुभव कर लो
तो तुम्हें हर अच्छे खाने में कैलोरी नजर आ जाती है
अच्छी गाड़ी में भी तुम दूसरों को दिखाने हेतु घूमते हो
इसलिए उसमें भी तुम्हें मेरा अनुभव नहीं होता।
-   बात तो तुम्हारी ठीक है पर क्या करूं, भविष्य भी तो बनाना है।
-   भविष्य बनाना तो एक आदत है
एकबार लग गई तो मरते दम-तक नहीं छूटेगी
परंतु मेरी बात ध्यान से सुन लो
मुझे रोज थोड़ा-थोड़ा साथ लेकर नहीं चले तो मैं रूठ जाऊंगा
और मैं रूठ गया
तो मन की पचासों बीमारियां पकड़वाकर ही दम लूंगा।
और छोडूंगा तो शरीर को भी नहीं
उसमें भी दसियों बीमारी घुसेड़ दूंगा।
यह याद रख लेना कि सारे मानसिक और शारीरिक रोगी
मेरी अवहेलना का ही भुगत रहे हैं।

A Class for Monkeys

An elderly, wise and intelligent monkey used to conduct classes every morning for the children of his jungle. For the intelligent, elderly monkey, it was less of classes and more of satisfying the curiosities of the children. One day a young monkey suddenly asked him a very odd question. He asked, “Is it true that man is an improved version of us? ”

On hearing this question the elderly monkey looked at that kid-monkey in a bewildered manner. Then with a smile, he said, “To comprehend this you need to understand the difference between a man and a monkey. Agreed, that we monkeys keep jumping and swinging around, but that is for our own entertainment… on the other hand, without any rhyme or reason, man keeps jumping around day and night. On being even a little avoided by someone, he jumps. On hearing an unkind word from someone, he jumps. Someone progresses more than him and he jumps and even when he suffers a loss in his own business, he jumps. Stricken with anger, frustration and jealousy he keeps jumping hundreds of times a day. Not only that, he doesn’t even sleep peacefully. The slightest scary dream is enough to make him jump out of his skin. We monkeys jump around for our own enjoyment but man not only jumps on his own account but also induces others to jump around. Hence, my children understand this, man is definitely an extended version of us but not an improved one, rather a perverted one. And be wary of the fact that he who is not able to be a proper monkey may well become perverted and be born in the human form in his next life.

All monkey-kids in unison- No way! We will put our heart and soul in it but we will not let our monkeyness get perverted.

बंदरों की क्लास

एक बुजुर्ग, समझदार व बुद्धिमान बंदर नियमित रूप से रोज सुबह अपने जंगल के सभी बच्चों की क्लास लिया करता था। क्लास क्या, बच्चे उत्सुकता जाहिर करते और वह बुद्धिमान बुजुर्ग बंदर सबकी जिज्ञासाएं शांत कर दिया करता था। एक दिन क्लास में अचानक एक नन्हें बंदर ने उस बुजुर्ग बंदर से बड़ा अजीब सवाल पूछा। उसने पूछा कि क्या यह सत्य है कि इन्सान हमारा ही सुधरा हुआ स्वरूप है?

सवाल सुनते ही उस बुजुर्ग बंदर ने बड़ी अजीब दृष्टि से बंदर के उस बच्चे को देखा। फिर थोड़ा मुस्कुराते हुए बोला- इसे समझने हेतु थोड़ा बंदर और मनुष्य का फर्क समझ लो। माना हम बंदर अक्सर उछलते-कूदते रहते हैं, परंतु अपनी मस्ती हेतु। …जबकि इन्सान तो बात-बिना-बात ही, और वह भी दिन-रात उछलता रहता है। जरा-सा किसी ने एव्हॉइड किया नहीं कि उछल पड़ा। किसी ने थोड़ी-सी बुराई करी नहीं कि उछल पड़ा। कोई दूसरा आगे बढ़ा तो उछल पड़ा, और खुद के धंधे में कोई नुकसान हुआ तो भी उछल पड़ा। क्रोध, फ्रस्ट्रेशन, जलन व चिंता के मारे तो दिन में पचासों बार उछलता रहता है। और-तो-और, चैन से सोता भी नहीं। जरा-सा कोई डरावना सपना देखा नहीं कि उछला नहीं। अरे, हम बंदर तो अपनी मस्ती हेतु खेल-कूद में उछलते हैं, ये इन्सान खुद तो उछलते ही हैं, एक-दूसरे को उछालते भी रहते हैं। अतः यह समझ लो मेरे बंदर-बच्चों कि इन्सान हमारा स्वरूप जरूर है, परंतु सुधरा हुआ नहीं बल्कि हमारा विकृत स्वरूप है। और तुमलोग इस बात का खास ध्यान रखना जो भी ठीक से बंदर नहीं हो पाएगा वह अगले जन्म में विकृत होकर इन्सान हो जाएगा।

सब बंदर-बच्चे एकसाथ- ना बाबा ना! हम जी जान लगाएंगे पर अपने बंदरपन को विकृत नहीं होने देंगे।

Picasso’s Birth Anniversary Special

On 25^th October, 1881, Pablo Picasso was born into a middle class family in Spain. Since his father, José, was a painter, the environment in the house was that of arts and paintings. Even when he began to babble, the first words he spoke were piz piz, i.e. Spanish for pencil. His father construed it to be a sign of his darling son’s artistic leanings and decided to provide him with the best possible environment for his art to incubate and help him become a fine artist. Driven by this decision, he took his three-year-old son to watch the cultural sport of Spain – The Bull Fight! Little Pablo was delighted to watch the bull lock their horns. So much so that, by the time he was eight, he razed away pencils and transformed his memory into a painting. The painting was so life-like that his father couldn’t help but be impressed. Thus by the time Pablo was ten, his father placed paints and paintbrushes in his hands… And the history that Picasso then created is not hidden from the world.
But it was surely his father who had laid the foundation of his greatness. Recognizing his son’s artistic potential, his decision to encourage him and create a suitable environment to hone his son’s skills is what transformed Little Pablo into the Pablo Picasso. This tale of Pablo becoming The Great Pablo Picasso has a lesson for every father to learn… they expect their child to become Picasso, but how? …this is something they don’t bother to think about. I hope, hearing this story, every father will identify the hidden potential in their children and provide them with a conducive environment for their talents to proliferate. If even a few fathers take a clue from José, then my purpose of writing this blog post is served.

पिकासो के जन्मदिवस पर विशेष

25 अक्टूबर 1881 को स्पेन के एक मध्यमवर्गीय परिवार में पिकासो का जन्म हुआ था। उनके पिता जोंस एक पेंटर थे। यानी पेंटिंग का माहौल घर पर जमा ही हुआ था। इधर पिकासो जब बोलना सीखे तो उन्होंने पहला शब्द पिव-पिव यानी स्पेनिश भाषा में पेन्सिल ही बोला। बस पिता ने इसे अपने लाड़ले पुत्र के कला-प्रेम के तौर पर लिया और अपने पुत्र को एक अच्छा कलाकार बनने हेतु हर संभव वातावरण प्रदान करना तय किया। और अपने इसी निर्णय के तहत वे एक दिन अपने तीन वर्षीय पुत्र को सांढ़ों की कलात्मक ल़़ड़ाई दिखाने ले गए। नन्हें पिकासो को सांढ़ों की इस भिड़ंत में आनंद आ गया। और आठ वर्ष के होते-होते उन्होंने पेन्सिल रगड़-रगड़कर सांढ़ों की ल़़ड़ाई के उस दृश्य का चित्र ही बना डाला। चित्र इतना जीवंत था कि पिता प्रभावित हुए बगैर नहीं रह सके। और दस वर्ष के होते-होते तो पिता ने पिकासो के हाथ में ब्रश व रंग भी पकड़ा दिया। …फिर पिकासो ने क्या इतिहास रचा, यह किसी से छिपा नहीं है।
लेकिन उनके महान बनने की नींव उनके पिता ने ही रखी। उनके अपने बच्चे की रुचि पहचानने, उसका उत्साह बढ़ाने और उसकी कला को निखारने हेतु वातावरण प्रदान करने के निर्णय ने ही नन्हें पिकासो को महान पिकासो बना दिया। पिकासो के महान बनने की यह दास्तान विश्‍व के हर पिता को बहुत कुछ सिखाती है। वे अपना बच्चा पिकासो बने यह आशा तो रखते हैं, परंतु कैसे…यह सोचने की जहमत नहीं उठाते हैं। उम्मीद है यह दास्तान सुनकर हर पिता अपने बच्चों में छिपी कला को पहचानेगा और उनकी कला को निखारने हेतु उन्हें योग्य वातावरण भी प्रदान करेेगा। यदि चन्द पिता भी यह सीख जाते हैं तो मेरा यह पोस्ट लिखना सफल हुआ।

Happy Bulb Day

 

It was on 22^nd October, 1879 i.e. around 135 years ago that the great scientist Thomas Alva Edison had invented the light bulb. My heart goes out to salute him simply for conceiving the idea that something can light up too. However, more than the idea, I would like to salute his determination to invent the bulb. As soon as, the idea of inventing the light bulb surfaced in his mind, he entered the laboratory along with his team. And you will not believe, the most essential element, the carbon filament that he was searching for, was discovered after unsuccessfully experimenting with over 6000 various filaments and that too, after continually spending 27 days experimenting in the laboratory... During this period, neither did his enthusiasm abate nor did his confidence shake. And 27 days of concentrated efforts and experiments, finally led to the illumination of the light bulb.

At present, nobody can even imagine life without light. Perhaps for mankind, there can be no boon bigger than the availability of light in darkness. So today, I salute the great Edison on behalf of the whole world and ask you as well to develop the habit of adulating the great works of great men. Given the chance, let gratefulness towards these legends grow within you. Celebrate the birth anniversaries of Buddha, Christ and Krishna; we are indebted to them, but also remember the great individuals from other fields. I promise that Buddha, Krishna and Christ will not feel bad, but on the contrary they will be happy.

And psychologically too, develop the habit of being grateful to great men as it will firstly weaken your ego, secondly, it will motivate you to become great and thirdly, when you adulate these great men with all your heart, you too will begin to imbibe their qualities… So then, why should we limit the sphere of our gratefulness and confine it only to Buddha, Krishna and Christ?

Keep adding names to this list and keep strengthening your foundation to become great.

 

Happy Bulb Day

 

22 अक्टूबर 1879 को महान वैज्ञानिक एडीसन ने बल्ब खोजा था। ...यानी करीब 135 वर्ष पूर्व। कोई वस्तु रोशन भी हो सकती है, इस सोच मात्र के लिए एडीसन को सलाम करने को जी चाहता है। और उससे ज्यादा सलाम उनके बल्ब बनाने के डिटरमिनेशन को करना चाहता हूँू। उन्हें एकबार बल्ब बनाने का खयाल आया तो बस अपनी पूरी टीम के साथ लेबोरेटरी में घुस गए। और आप मानेंगे नहीं कि बल्ब रोशन करने हेतु जिस फिलामेंट की उन्हें तलाश थी वह कार्बन फिलामेंट, उन्हें करीब 6000 से ज्यादा भिन्न-भिन्न फिलामेंट के असफल होने के बाद ही हाथ लगा। और वह भी करीब सत्ताइस दिनों तक लगातार दिन-रात लेबोरेटरी में भिड़े रहने के बाद...। इस दरम्यान न उनका उत्साह चुका, ना ही उनका आत्मविश्वास डगमगाया। और आखिर सत्ताइस दिनों तक करी गई उनकी इस ध्यानपूर्ण तपश्चर्या ने बल्ब रोशन कर ही दिया।

आज बिना रोशनी के जीवन की कोई कल्पना नहीं कर सकता है। शायद मनुष्य के लिए रात को भी रोशनी उपलब्ध हो, उससे बड़ा कोई वरदान नहीं हो सकता है। तो आज मैं पूरे विश्व की ओर से ऐसे महान एडीसन को सलाम करता हॅूं तथा आपको भी कहता हूँ कि महान लोगों के महान कार्यों को सलाम करने की आदत डालें। जब मौका मिले उनके प्रति कृतज्ञता से भरें। बुद्ध, क्राइस्ट व कृष्ण के जन्मदिवस मनाएं, उनके हमारे ऊपर बहुत उपकार हैं, परंतु दूसरे क्षेत्रों के महान लोगों को भी याद करें। मैं वादा करता हूँ कि इससे बुद्ध, कृष्ण या क्राइस्ट बुरा नहीं मानेंगे, बल्कि प्रसन्न ही होंगे।

और सायकोलोजिकली भी ज्यादा-से-ज्यादा महान लोगों के प्रति आप कृतज्ञता से भरने की आदत डालें, यह आदत एक तो आपके अहंकार को कमजोर करेगी, दूसरा आपको महान बनने की प्रेरणा देगी तथा तीसरा आप जिसे भी दिल से मानेंगे, उसके गुण भी धीरे-धीरे आपमें अवतरित होना शुरू हो जाएंगे। ...तो फिर कृतज्ञता के दायरे को सीमित रख के क्यों जीना? इस दायरे को बुद्ध, कृष्ण व क्राइस्ट तक ही क्यों बांधना? बस इस सूची को बढ़ाते जाओ और अपने को महान बनाने की नींव मजबूत करते जाओ।

God! No way…!

-Who are you?

-I am God

The reverence with which you offered flowers in the temple

I gather that you are my true devotee

So, I have to come to stay with you.

-Listen, forgive me!

It is better that our relationship be limited to the temple

You are good in the form of an idol only.

I cannot lead my life as prescribed by you

No way! You are impractical and like a noose around my neck

And then, you have no idea as to what all one has to do

In order to survive in this world

So please return to wherever you came from

I cannot have you at my house

And yes, from tomorrow onwards while offering flowers

I will bear in mind not to let my pretence of devotion cross its limit

भगवान! ना बाबा ना…

- आप कौन हैं?

- मैं भगवान हूँ

मंदिर में जिस श्रद्धा से तुमने फूल चढ़ाए

मैं समझ गया कि तुम मेरे सच्चे भक्त हो

बस तुम्हारे साथ रहने चला आया।

- देखो माफ करो!

मेरा-आपका रिश्ता मंदिर तक का ही ठीक है

आप मूर्त-रूप ही अच्छे हो

मैं आपके हिसाब से चल नहीं सकता।

ना बाबा ना, आप इम्प्रेक्टिकल और जी का जंजाल हैं

और फिर आज के जमाने में जीने हेतु क्या-क्या करना पड़ता है

इसका आपको अंदाजा नहीं है।

अतः आप जहां से आए थे वहीं लौट जाओ

मैं आपको अपने घर पे नहीं रख सकता

हां, कल से फूल चढ़ाते वक्त ध्यान रखूंगा कि श्रद्धा का अभिनय

नियंत्रण के बाहर न हो जाए।

Alien-ated

Student: Madam, do aliens really exist? 

Madam: Of course, they do…! In fact they have been born right here on earth itself!
Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ, Lord Krishna, Socrates, Meera Bai, they were all like aliens for us!

Go back in history and recall, while they were alive
Did we not harass them as if they were aliens?
…and after their death, we really outdid ourselves!
We hailed them as gods and gave them the passport of another world!
Plus, we made rules for Visa to earth so strict that today
They can’t even come back again for the sake of spreading their wise words to mankind!

एलियन कौन?

विद्यार्थी - मैडम! क्या सचमुच एलियन होते हैं? 
मैडम - होते हैं...! अरे, हमारी धरती पर ही पैदा होते हैं। 
बुद्ध, क्राइस्ट, कृष्ण, सोक्रेटिज, मीरा सब हमारे लिए 
एलियन ही तो थे। 

याद करो कि उनके जीते जी
हमने उनसे एलियनों-सा व्यवहार कर उन्हें कितना सताया?
...और मरने के बाद तो कमाल ही कर दिया
भगवान बनाकर उन्हें एलियन होने का पासपोर्ट ही थमा दिया
तथा वीजा के नियम ऐसे तो कठिन बना दिए
कि अब वे बेचारे अपनी बातें फैलाने
दोबारा हमारी धरती पर आ ही नहीं सकते।

The crow and the cuckoo

 

A cuckoo perched herself on a branch next to a crow who was cawing away.

Immediately she began to sing in her melodious voice

...As soon as the poor crow heard the cuckoo’s sweet voice, he became silent.

On seeing this, the cuckoo said

Heard how melodious my voice is!

And here you are, completely hoarse!

Listening to the cuckoo speak with such arrogance

The crow solemnly replied- Cuckoo! I agree that you have a truly melodious voice.

But why do you forget that it is a blessing bestowed upon you by God

…What is your contribution to it

That you flit around arrogantly!

On the other hand, though my voice is gruff

I know it is not my doing

So, I have accepted

Even my hoarse voice as the gift of God

And it is this acceptance and wisdom of mine

That makes me a thousand times more chaste than you
