It Takes Two To Tango

If politicians formulate their strategies considering the public as fools, then they are not entirely wrong. Because it always takes two hands to clap.

v Despite such enormous corruption, if Yeddyurappa can garner 10% votes, then it proves nothing else but the foolishness of the public.

v Even after the 2-G scam, if in Tamil Nadu Karunanidhi gets only 4-5% lesser votes than Jayalalitha, then the point is proven correct once again.

v Before every election, if the BJP is able to fire up the Ram-Mandir issue, then the public is indeed foolish.

v After depleting the country’s resources with the 2-G and Coalgate scams, if the Congress can still dream of winning the elections once again based on the Food Security Bill, then somewhere down the line, the public is only foolish. This implies...both the hands are responsible for clapping!

Why is it so...?

Because, the public accords higher importance to its petty self-interests of caste and religion, than the country. If for once the people vote for the country and rise above the party politics and rout corruption and anti-social elements, then overnight, they will fall in line. But what’s happening is completely the opposite! The corrupt and the anti-social elements are winning by much higher margins! Then assigning blame to only the politicians will be wrong. For we need to always keep in mind that it takes two to tango!

ताली दो हाथों से बज रही है

यदि नेता लोग स्ट्रेटेजी जनता को मूर्ख समझकर बनाते हैं, तो वे पूरी तरह गलत भी नहीं हैं। क्योंकि ताली हमेशा दो हाथों से बजती है।

* यदि इतने भ्रष्टाचार के बावजूद येदुरप्पा को दस प्रतिशत वोट मिलते हैं, तो यह बात जनता की मूर्खता सिद्ध करती ही है।

* यदि तमिलनाडु में करुणानिधि को 2-G घोटाले के बाद भी जयललिता से सिर्फ चार-पांच पर्सेंट वोट कम मिलते हैं, तो बात फिर से सिद्ध होती ही है।

* यदि हर चुनाव के पहले बीजेपी बार-बार राम मंदिर का मुद्दा गरमा पाती है तो जनता मूर्ख है ही।

* यदि 2-G व कोयला जैसे घोटालों में देश का संसाधन लुटा देने के बाद कांग्रेस फूड सिक्योरिटी बिल के बल पर फिर चुनाव जीतने के सपने देखती है, तो कहीं-न-कहीं जनता मूर्ख है ही। यानी ताली दो हाथों से ही बज रही है।

ऐसा क्यों...?

क्योंकि जनता अपने छोटे-छोटे जात-पात व धर्म जैसे स्वार्थों को देश के मुकाबले अधिक अहमियत देती है। एकबार वह देश के लिए वोट कर दे, या जात-पात से ऊपर उठकर भ्रष्ट व गुंडे तत्वों को चौतरफा हरा दे, तो सब रातोंरात सीधे हो जाएं। लेकिन होता उलटा है। भ्रष्ट व गुंडा-तत्व ज्यादा वोटों से जीत रहे हैं। फिर सिर्फ नेताओं को दोष देना गलत है। क्योंकि यह ध्यान रखना ही होगा कि ताली दो हाथों से ही बज रही है।

On Steve Jobs’ Birthday I Recall An Incident From His Childhood

Right from his childhood, Steve was a very mischievous, inquisitive and determined person. He was so naughty and notorious that he could put the most roguish children to shame. But, at the same time he was also exceptionally insightful. Today, the incident which I am going to narrate is not of the child Steve, but a young Steve who was about 13 years old at that time.

One day Steve happened to came across an issue of Life Magazine which featured a photograph of two agonised African children on its cover page. On seeing the photo, Steve was extremely distressed. He could not bear the fact that in spite of God’s existence, such young, innocent children had to languish and suffer so much hardship. Right away he took the magazine with him and went to a pastor in a church nearby and directly asked him a question, “Does God know everything?”

The Pastor replied, “Yes, my child”.

Promptly putting the magazine in his hand Steve asked “So does God also know of the difficulties these children are facing?”

The pastor said, “Yes, of course!”

On hearing this Steve angrily asked, “Then why God can’t put an end to their pain and suffering?”

Now, what could the pastor have said? He evaded the question by giving him religious jibber-jabber for an answer. However, could the intelligent Steve be satisfied by it? From that day onwards he stopped visiting the church. But he had got the answer he was looking for. A human being himself has to build his destiny with sheer hard work and intelligence. And by establishing Apple, he has even proved this philosophy. Today on his birthday, I salute Steve Jobs, the genius. And I request you to also awaken such sensibility and intelligence within you to prosper in your life.

स्टीव जॉब्स के जन्म दिवस पर उनके बचपन का एक किस्सा

स्टीव बचपन से ही बड़े शैतान, जिज्ञासु तथा दृढ़ इरादे वाले थे। और नटखट व शैतान तो इतने थे कि बड़े-बड़े शैतान बच्चों को शरमा दे। लेकिन साथ ही संजीदा भी पूरे थे। आज मैं उनके जीवन की जो बात बताने जा रहा हूँ वह नन्हें स्टीव की नहीं, बल्कि युवा स्टीव की है। उस समय स्टीव की उम्र करीब 13 वर्ष थी।

हुआ यह था कि एक दिन उनके हाथ में एक लाइफ मैगजीन पड़ी जिसके मुखपृष्ठ पर बड़ा कष्ट भोग रहे दो अफ्रीकन बच्चों की तस्वीर थी। यह देख स्टीव काफी विचलित हुए। उन्हें यह बात ही नहीं जंची कि भगवान के होते-सोते इतने छोटे बच्चों को इतना कष्ट उठाना पड़े। बस वे वह मैगजीन लेकर सीधे निकट के एक चर्च के पादरी के पास पहुंच गए, और उन्होंने उससे सीधा सवाल पूछा- क्या भगवान सबकुछ जानता है?

वह पादरी बोला- हां, बेटा।

अबकी स्टीव ने वह मैगजीन उनके हाथ में थमाते हुए पूछा- तो क्या भगवान इन बच्चों का कष्ट भी जानता है?

पादरी बोला- बिल्कुल!

इस पर स्टीव ने क्रोधित होते हुए पूछा- तो फिर भगवान इनका कष्ट दूर क्यों नहीं कर देता?

इस पर पादरी क्या कहता? बस गोल-मोल रटे-रटाए जवाब दे दिए। ...लेकिन होशियार स्टीव उससे कहां संतुष्ट होने वाले थे। बस उस दिन के बाद उन्होंने चर्च जाना छोड़ दिया। लेकिन उनको उनका उत्तर मिल चुका था। आदमी को अपनी तकदीर अपनी मेहनत व इंटेलिजेंस के बल पर स्वयं बनानी होती है। और उन्होंने एपल की स्थापना कर अपनी यह फिलोसोफी सिद्ध भी कर दी। आज उनके जन्मदिन पर मैं ऐसे प्रज्ञावान स्टीव जॉब्स को सलाम करता हूँ। और आपसे भी अपने जीवन को बढ़ाने हेतु ऐसी इंटेलिजेंस जगाने की गुजारिश करता हूँ।

God, You’re Definitely Not There Where Everyone Says You Are!

Once, all the belongings of a foreigner get stolen. He did not even have enough money to return to his village. Now what could he do in an unknown city? Three days pass by with him wandering around hungry and thirsty! He becomes almost half-dead! Finally, he thinks of narrating his sorry tale to some good people, who would be kind enough to give him some money for food and the ticket fare to travel home. Now, good and kind-hearted people are likely to be found only in temples, mosques or churches. Thinking thus, he went and stood outside a temple. He began to narrate his tale to all who passed by... but no one was even willing to hear him out! The sun set well into the evening, and yet no one took pity on him

...Ultimately, thoroughly dejected, he started roaming around in the nearby lanes. Just then, two people who were coming out of a bar, noticed him. His condition was reflective of his predicament. No sooner was he asked, than he began to pour his heart to them! Immediately, they took him along with them to the bar. First and foremost they treated him to a satiating meal. Meanwhile, the news of his pitiable condition had spread through the bar like wildfire. Within no time, a total of Rs 500 was even collected to help him. On seeing this, the foreigner was overwhelmed and said – Oh God, you and your mysterious ways! You stay somewhere else and give the address of another place altogether!

भगवान तू वहां तो नहीं है- जहां सब कहते हैं।

एक परदेशी का पूरा सामान चोरी हो जाता है। अपने गांव लौट जाने के पैसे भी उसके पास नहीं होते। अब अनजान शहर में करे क्या? तीन रोज भूखे-प्यासे भटकते-भटकते बीत जाते हैं। मरियल-सी हालत हो जाती है उसकी। आखिर सोचता है कि भले लोगों को अपनी दास्तान सुनाऊं, शायद कोई भाड़े के और खाने-पीने के पैसे दे दे। अब भले लोग तो मंदिर-मस्जिद या चर्चों में ही मिल सकते हैं। बस ऐसा सोच वह एक मंदिर के बाहर खड़ा हो गया। हर आने-जाने वाले को वह अपनी दास्तान सुनाने लगा। ...पर कोई सुने तब न। संध्या भी ढल गई पर एक को भी उस पर तरस नहीं आया।

...आखिर वह घोर निराशा की हालत में निकट की गलियों में घूमने लगा। तभी एक मदिरालय से निकले दो व्यक्तियों की उस पर नजर पड़ी। उसकी हालत उसके कष्टों का बयान कर ही रही थी। और पूछने पर तो परदेशी ने रोते हुए पूरा गुबार ही निकाल दिया। वे दोनों तत्क्षण उसे अपने साथ मदिरालय ले गए। उसे सबसे पहले भोजन करवाया। इतनी देर में पूरे मदिरालय में उसकी हालत के चर्चे फैल चुके थे। देखते-ही-देखते उसकी सहायता हेतु पांच-सौ रुपये का कलेक्शन भी एकत्रित हो गया। ...यह देख वह परदेशी गदगद होता हुआ बोला- वाह रे भगवान तेरी लीला। तू रहता कहां है और पता कहां का देता है...।

Meeting of the Parrots

One day a meeting of parrots took place on a tree. The topic of discussion was – from where did we parrots get into the habit of learning by rote and then constantly repeating it? Because, we repeat the word quite easily, however, we don’t understand its meaning. We have no connect with the word. Then why is it, that barring us, no other animal does this foolishness?

There were many questions and finding answers to all of these was difficult. However, when the intentions are strong, the answers will definitely be found. After brainstorming for an entire day, they found a very simple answer to their problem. A sensible and elderly parrot had read somewhere that all this was nothing but the result of the habits of our past-life. In our past lives we all were pundits, maulvis or priests and thus in our next life i.e. this life, we are born as parrots. And just like our previous birth, where we would learn by rote without understanding the true meaning of scriptures...today as well, as parrots we are compelled to do so. Just as we had kept our garb and attire different from other human beings during those times, revengefully, Nature, in this life, has given us a green-coloured body and a red coloured nose, thus differentiating us from the rest of the bird species.

...This means, today we are suffering because of our habit of chattering without understanding. We have been demoted from human beings directly to the level of being parrots. Such things happen; who has ever been able to escape the consequences of his karma?

तोतों की सभा

एक दिन एक पेड़ पर तोतों की सभा भरी। सभा की चर्चा का विषय था कि हम तोतों को यह शब्द रटने की और फिर उसे बार-बार दोहराने की आदत कहां से पड़ गई? क्योंकि हम शब्द तो दोहरा देते हैं पर उसका अर्थ तो समझते ही नहीं? उस शब्द के साथ हमारा कोई भाव तो जुड़ा नहीं होता है? फिर अन्य कोई जानवर नहीं सिर्फ हम ही यह मूर्खता क्यों करते हैं?

सवाल अनेक थे और जवाब खोजना आसान नहीं था। लेकिन जब इरादे दृढ़ हों तो जवाब भी मिल ही जाते हैं। दिनभर की मगजपच्ची के बाद उन्हें भी उनके सारे सवालों का एक सीधा-सा जवाब मिल गया। एक समझदार व बुजुर्ग तोते ने सबको बताया कि मैंने बहुत पहले कहीं पढ़ा था कि यह और कुछ नहीं हमारे पिछले जन्म की आदत के कारण है। पिछले जन्म में हम सब पंडित, मौलवी या पादरी थे, और हमारा ही अगला जन्म तोते के रूप में हुआ है। और जैसे उस समय हमने शास्त्रों का बिना अर्थ समझे जीवनभर रट्टे लगाए हैं, वैसे ही आज भी हम तोते बनकर यही करने को मजबूर हैं। जैसे उस समय हम अपनी पोशाक और अपना गेट-अप इन्सानों से अलग रखा करते थे, बस उसी का बदला लेते हुए इस जन्म में प्रकृति ने हमें हरे रंग का शरीर तथा लाल कलर की चोंच देकर अपने ग्रुप-पक्षियों से अलग कर दिया है।

...यानी आज हम बिना समझे रट्टे लगाने का ही भुगत रहे हैं। इन्सान से सीधे तोतों के स्तर पर गिरा दिए गए हैं। होगा, कर्मों के फल से कौन बच सका है?
