Dayanand Saraswati is a
prominent name in India. Along with being a supreme saint he was also a great
philosopher. Today, in his memory I am going to narrate an incident of his childhood.
His father was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. And in those days, many Shiva
temples had statues of Ganesha as well. So, one day, his father took young
Dayanand along with him to the temple. Over there, everyone was offering ladoos
to Ganesha’s idol, but there were also 2-3 rats who were nibbling away at the
sweets. On seeing this, Dayanand was astonished and out of curiosity asked his
father whether the ladoos were being offered to Lord Ganesha or the rats.
His father replied – To
Ganesha
To which Dayanand promptly responded,
“Then I figure Ganesha will unleash his anger upon the rats.”
His father said, “No,
nothing like that is going to happen.”
The young Dayanand firmly
said, “Then worshipping Ganesha is completely useless. How can the one who
can’t even safeguard his own rights, possibly protect us?”
From that day onwards not
only did Dayanand renounce idol worship, but also emerged as a revolutionary
working towards the abolition of the practice of idol worship. Keeping in with
this line of thought, he established Arya Samaj. And today Arya Samaj has
spread to every corner of India ...Meaning, all it takes is a deep sense of
intelligence to transform life and know the truth, or else without using his intelligence
a human being is capable of constantly repeating any act throughout his life.
But make note, then he can never become a Dayanand!
