Goddess – Come, quickly load the treasure onto my
chariot!
Don’t you know it’s my birthday today?
I want to go to earth and shower this wealth on deserving people
Helper – Oh
Goddess, it is futile to carry so much of the treasure along
Anyway, you are not
going to find a large number of deserving people!
Goddess – What are you saying?
These days I am worshipped
in almost every household!
Poor humans, they work
so hard round the year in the hope of my arrival!
I can’t disappoint my devotees!
Helper – Who is asking you to disappoint your
devotees?
But you can’t break your
own law also, right?!
Goddess –Don’t
make excuses! Come, let’s quickly go to earth
(...Even after
roaming on earth from evening to late in the night, the Goddess could barely
find a few people on whom she could shower wealth. She becomes quite dejected.)
In the same sad
tone she asked the helper – How did this happen?
Everybody knows that I sit on an ‘Ullu’(An
owl is called 'Ullu' in Hindi which
also means a fool)...and shower my blessings only on simple and straightforward
people
Then today, even on the occasion of dhanteras, how come I didn’t find many such people?
To
this the helper replied – Well, didn’t I tell you beforehand that
Now
times have changed
Not
many of your devotees are left on earth
A
lot of people desire wealth
But
they are scared of walking the right path to become your favourite!
Now
in an effort to gain wealth
They
resort to robbery, cheating, and notorious activities
These
days no one believes that you “Sit on an Ullu”
Instead,
everyone has found a short cut and that is, worshipping you
Otherwise,
day and night they only flaunt their smartness!
Hearing this, the
Goddess said angrily –
That’s it... let them struggle to
gain wealth!
I
don’t want to give anyone anything
I
like sitting on my Ullu only and will
continue to do so!
So
now onwards, I will open heartedly shower my wealth
Only
when I come across people who are simple, straightforward and not showing
over-smartness!
I
will make them pine for wealth all their life!
