Swami Vivekananda

"Cyclonic monk from India", “If he merely crosses the platform, he is applauded", "He is an orator by divine right”, “The Orange-monk who exercised the most wonderful influence over his auditors” are only some of the many praises showered upon an Indian, when visiting foreign lands, as he took Hinduism to the world and revealed the true identity of Indian culture.

The Indian who influenced great personalities like Nikola Tesla and Max Muller - Swami Vivekananda, was born on 12th January 1863 into an affluent, traditional Bengali family. Named Narendranath Datta by his parents and lovingly called Naren, he grew up in an environment that was influenced by his intellectual father and saintly mother. Often, he credits his mother of transforming him from an ill-tempered, prankster to a highly acclaimed, well-cultured human being – the little Naren whom the world came to call Swami Vivekananda. And even 151 years after his birth he remains the prime reason for introducing and inclining the “modern” western world towards the sanctity and spirituality of the East.

As he aptly said “A few heart-whole, sincere, and energetic men and women can do more in a year than a mob in a century.” Let us salute him with all our hearts and vow to follow in his footsteps.
